AIA|LA Announces 2014 Design Award Winners
(Los Angeles, CA) - October 29, 2014 - AIA Los Angeles (AIA|LA) announced the 2014 Design Awards winners Wednesday evening, October 29, 2014. The program included executives in the Los Angeles Arts Community such as the Getty Center’s CEO James Cuno and the Hammer Museum’s Director, Ann Philbin.
This year marked AIA|LA’s grand return to Downtown Los Angeles, with the Design Awards being held at three historic Downtown Los Angeles venues: the Bradbury Building, the Million Dollar Theater and Grand Central Market. A pre-reception cocktail party kicked things off at Francis Krahe & Associates' 5th floor offices inside the Bradbury Building. Guests then proceeded to the Million Dollar Theater for drinks and the ceremony.
The ceremony went smoothly with 21 firms and 14 Presidential Honorees receiving awards. Awards included the Next LA Awards (presented by Ann Philbin), the Design Awards (presented by James Cuno) and the Presidential Honor Awards (presented by AIA|LA Chapter President, Andrea Cohen Gehring, FAIA).
Presidential Honorees included, among others, A+D Museum Executive Director, Tibbie Dunbar, Hon. AIA|LA, Woodbury School of Architecture Dean, Norman Millar, AIA and Architecture Writer & Critic, Michael Webb, Hon. AIA|LA. The Building Team Award went to Emerson College L.A., and the Gold Medal went to Christopher C. Martin, FAIA and David C. Martin, FAIA of AC Martin Partners.
The night concluded with a hip and lavish party at Grand Central Market with food provided by such GCM staples as Belcampo Meat Co., Berlin Currywurst, China Cafe, Horse Thief BBQ and Olio GCM Wood Fired Pizza.
The annual AIA Los Angeles Design Awards honor excellence in work built by Los Angeles architects (Design Awards) as well as work by Los Angeles designers as yet unbuilt (Next LA Awards). In both the Design and Next LA categories, jury awards are given in three classifications: Citation, Merit and Honor.
