Nicole Davis Tinkham
Attorney at Law, Collins Collins Muir + Stewart

  • When did you first realize you wanted to become an architect?
I knew I was not suited to be an architect but was aware that I wanted to work with and be around architects and the allied fields. Architects are amazing people who have a unique view of the world that is always focused on what it can become instead of focusing on what it is.
  • Who has inspired you and/or influenced your career the most? And how?
Both the male and female leaders of my firm. And how? They were/are just great guides. They have provided a lot of guidance over the years and promoted my career. Most importantly they are all people I look up to who demonstrate through their actions what it means to be a good human being and professional.
  • What are your recommendations for increasing diversity in the workplace and within the design process particularly?
Diversity first starts in schools. Through the active participation of women, like the members of AWA+D, the diversity at the educational level has gotten much better. Now the focus needs to be on diversifying who is getting licensed and becoming the principle/partner of larger firms. This goal can be accomplished by really pushing young women to obtain their licensure as early on in the process as possible.
  • As a woman, what are your thoughts on the Los Angeles region as a place to work?
Although I have never worked in another state, I have worked in other counties. I believe Los Angeles County is one of the best regions to be a women in the industry. Los Angeles is progressive and filled with customers who believe diversity is important.
