AIA Los Angeles is pleased to announced that the American Institute of Architects has elevated 12 AIA|LA members to the College of Fellows for the 2014 year. This marks another year that AIA|LA members have been very present in the College of Fellows and we congratulate them all!
The new Fellows will be honored at the investiture ceremony during the 2014 AIA National Convention in Chicago. Los Angeles Fellows will also be honored locally at a private reception.
We also want to thank our 2013-14 Fellows Nominating & Mentoring Committee, and all who were sponsors and mentors. Their excellent guidance and "tough love" helped ensure success for yet another distinguished group of nominees.

About the College of Fellows
This year, 139 members from across the country were inducted to the College of Fellows (FAIA.) The honor recognizes architect members who have made a significant contribution to the profession and to society that would not have occurred without their efforts. Twelve of the new Fellows are AIA Los Angeles members.

The College of Fellows is composed of AIA Architect members who are elected to Fellowship by a jury of their peers. Each year, candidates who have been Architect members for at least ten years are nominated in one of five categories (either by their Chapter or by a group of individual members):
- Design, Urban Design, or Preservation
- Education, Research, Literature, or Practice
- Leadership in the AIA and other related professional organizations
- Public Service, Government, Industry or Organization
- Alternative Career, Volunteer Work with Organizations Not Directly Connected with the Built Environment, or Service to Society
Nationwide, just over 3000 of the AIA's 80,000 members are Fellows. This year, 237 candidates were nominated across the country, of which 139 (59%) became Fellows. In California, 29 new Fellows were elevated, out of 46 nominees.
Serving on this year's jury were:
- Craig Rafferty, FAIA (Chair), Rafferty Rafferty Tollefson Lindeke Architects, St. Paul
- John Castellana, FAIA, TMP Architecture, Inc., Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
- Brian Dougherty, FAIA, Dougherty + Dougherty Architects, LLP, Costa Mesa, California
- Diane Georgopulos, FAIA, Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency, Cambridge, Massachusetts
- Susan Maxman, FAIA, SMP Architects LTD, Philadelphia
- Raymond Yeh, FAIA, University of Hawaii, School of Architecture, Honolulu
- Donald T. Yoshino, FAIA, Yoshino Architecture, PA, Boca Raton, Florida
