The title of Fellow (FAIA) honors individuals with at least ten (10) total years of AIA architect membership, who have achieved excellence in the profession, and made a significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level. Fellows need to demonstrate a ripple effect of influence on the profession that could not have happened without their efforts.
The AIA/LA Fellows Nominating & Mentoring Committee identifies, invites, and nominates qualified members for elevation to Fellowship. The committee also mentors nominees in writing and preparing their submission portfolios. Nominees are responsible for writing and organizing materials for their submission; obtaining declarations of responsibility and permission for images where necessary; confirming eligibility for themselves, their sponsors and references; and for submitting their Fellowship package online to National by the deadline.
If you are an AIA architect member in good standing, have the required ten years of membership, have completed your 2014 CES requirement, and would like to be considered for nomination, please send a brief email indicating your interest, with Call for Fellows in the subject line, by February 13, 2015, to email@example.com. The Committee will contact you about what next steps will be required and by what date.
Candidates for Fellowship may be nominated either by the local Chapter, or by obtaining the signatures of ten architect members or five Fellows in good standing. Regardless of the nomination method, all nominees must solicit an eligible sponsor and the appropriate number of reference letters. The candidate, sponsor and any reference letter writers who are Architect members must be in good standing and up to date in their AIA CES requirements for 2014 in order to submit in 2015. Nominees must submit their materials for the 2015 College of Fellows online before 2pm Pacific Time on October 16, 2015. There is a non-refundable entry fee of $350.00.
