Executive Editor, Interiors magazine, and West Coast Editor, The Architect’s Newspaper, to introduce Next LA Awards at 2015 Design Awards Ceremony
August 26, 2015 (Los Angeles, CA) – Two editors with global reach, Erika Heet and Mimi Zeiger, are the first announced presenters for the AIA|LA 2015 Design Awards. Heet and Zeiger will appear on stage to introduce the Next LA Awards recipients during the October 29 ceremony. The category recognizes projects that are not yet built. Heet joins Interiors magazine on September 1 as Executive Editor. Zeiger is West Coast Editor, The Architect’s Newspaper.
The prestigious evening honors design excellence as achieved by members of one of the three largest American Institute of Architects chapters. Noted Heet, “[T]he AIA/LA Design Awards represent the best of both the present and the future built environment in Los Angeles, a city whose landscape the world loves to deride—and, more often, emulate.”
Zeiger observed, “The awards represent design excellence, but for me they reflect the strength and dynamism for the LA architecture and design community.”
With celebratory activities such as a perennially near-overflow-capacity crowd at the party and a boisterous line at the bar, the ceremony is esteemed, but the Design Awards also serves as Los Angeles’ #ArchitectsNightOut. (“Is there a Vanity Fair after party?” laughed Zeiger.)
The atmosphere provides an opportunity to catch up with influential and prominent Los Angeles cultural figures in a relaxed setting. Heet and Zeiger are illustrious examples of those influential figures that architects might run into over dinner.
Heet joins Interiors magazine as Executive Editor on September 1 but her ability to share Los Angeles architects’ projects on a national and international level is not news. In August, she completed her tenure as Los Angeles Editor, Dwell, and Editorial Director, Dwell on Design. Previously, Heet served as Senior Editor at Architectural Digest and at Robb Report.
Mimi Zeiger is a Los Angeles-based journalist and critic. Currently, the West Coast Editor of The Architect’s Newspaper, she has covered art, architecture, urbanism and design for a number of publications including The New York Times, Domus, Dezeen, and Architect. Zeiger is author of New Museums, Tiny Houses and Micro Green: Tiny Houses in Nature.
