POWERFUL is the AIA|LA's fourth conference featuring inspirational and energetic presentations that showcase women who are leading the design profession.

This year the symposium moves to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in recognition of women’s rising star in the design field, and the event’s popularity. All three previous Powerful conferences sold out.

Powerful IV’s growing list of international and nationally acclaimed headliners marks the success of this conference series, and the growing influence of the AIA|LA’s Women in Architecture committee,

Headliners include:

Internationally-Based Designers
Gabriela Carrillo, Taller de Arquitectura Mauricio Rocha + Gabriela Carrillo. Carrillo is the Recipient of the 2017 Architect of the Year, Women in Architecture Award. Attend Powerful for a unique opportunity to see this designer based in Mexico.

Acclaimed Urbanists
Dana Cuff is a professor, author, and scholar in architecture and urbanism at the University of California, Los Angeles where she is also the founding director of cityLAB, a think tank that explores design. Cuff is fresh off a new book, and renowned nationally and internationally for her ideas on urbanism.

Here is a special chance to learn how the realization of this commitment led to the 2017 AIA Architecture Firm Award.

Successful Policy Makers
Amy Elaine Wakeland is a political strategist, public policy expert, and advocate for children and families. She recently led successful efforts to fund and complete the City’s first-ever data driven analysis of the status of women and girls. She is active with organizations and campaigns focused on combating sexual and domestic violence, empowering women and girls, and serving our city's most vulnerable residents. Whether you are interested in better understanding political strategies, city hall, or the issues Amy focuses on, attend Powerful.

We're wrapping up final details, but click here for a schedule which includes headliners, speakers, panels, and career-path tool-kit sessions and leaders.

In addition to an array of speakers and  panels who will address the topics of community advocacy, professional empowerment for women, and design as a catalyst for change, Powerful IV marks the return of the popular lunchtime break-out sessions. These break-out sessions provide opportunities for attendees to drill down and learn more about topic of their choice, in depth, with mentors in small groups.

POWERFUL is a premiere event in the AIA|LA's October 2017 LArchitecture Month series.
