Multiple Campuses. One visionary goal to rethink healthcare delivery at a system-wide level.
The announcement of Scripps Health’s ambitious $2.6 billion capital plan represents the largest building program in the system’s 125-year history. In an effort to prepare for such a massive undertaking Scripps Health partnered with SmithGroupJJR to developed a 2.8 million square foot system-wide master planning strategy for the La Jolla, Encinitas, and Mercy campuses.
Changing healthcare trends, evolving technology, and a fast-approaching 2030 seismic mandate set the baseline for the planning effort. What made this endeavor truly innovative was Scripps Health and SmithGroupJJR’s shared approach for making faster decisions, the types of advanced and sometimes proprietary tools adopted, and a desire to allocate specialties and rationalize funds across the continuum of care and campuses.
Join the AIA-LA Healthcare Committee for an exclusive opportunity to hear how this approach has helped Scripps Health mobilize for the execution of approximately 1,250,000 gross square feet of new construction, 950,000 gross square feet of SPC/NPC upgrade to existing buildings, and 590,000 gross square feet of existing space.

Presentation Learning Objectives:

  • Understand methods to support healthcare system goals through prioritization of capital funds across campuses and the continuum of care.
  • Examine how innovative techniques in strategic planning can be used to align client priorities.
  • Gain insights in to the application of multi-campus programming and operational planning.
  • Identify how creative design solutions resolve budget, site and planning constraints while focusing on future campus growth.
