AIA|LA Fall 2011 Home Tours Backstory: "Eastbound"

AIA Los Angeles takes pride in bringing you the best home tours in the city. Our homes are glamorous, modern, sleek, sexy and have that "je ne sais quoi" that makes them "home tour worthy."

Why did we choose them? Our resident house hunter, Associate Director Carlo Caccavale explains why....

The Purdy Devis Residence is a quirky, fun and well thought out renovation of a mid-century home in a lovely, secluded cul-de-sac south of Los Feliz Boulevard.

We were attracted by the quiet location and, once inside, seduced by the explosion of colors. Whereas contemporary architecture typically plays with a muted color palette of taupe, gray, certainly white, and the occasional splash of red, architect Rebecca Rudolph, AIA and Linda Taalman, AIA is unafraid of dipping into vibrant pinks and warm yellows. The result is a welcoming experience.

Also, we were sold by the fun and creative landscape: an old tree that had to be removed was sliced to create a playful floor pattern in the yard; a lovely tiled fountain provides a nice water reflection in the entry hall; and the terraced backyard makes the best use of the hilly terrain.

Stay tuned for reviews of the other homes...If you can't wait, check out their descriptions yourself here!

Or see them in person at the October 23rd AIA|LA Home Tour: Eastbound!
